Transfer Factor and 4LIFE

Wikipedia describes “transfer factors are essentially small immune messenger molecules that are produced by all higher organisms. They are an ancient part of the immune system and present “an archaic dialect in the language of cells. Transfer factors were originally described as immune molecules that are derived from blood or spleen cells that cause antigen-specific cell mediated immunity, primarily delayed hypersensitivity and the production of lymphokines, as well as binding to the antigens themselves.
Henry Sherwood Lawrence discovered transfer factors in 1954. A second use of term transfer factor applies to a likely different entity derived from cow colostrum or chicken egg yolk which is marketed as an oral dietary supplement under the same name citing claims of benefit to the immune system.
Transfer factor is an immune molecule composed entirely of amino acids. Wikipedia further explains that to communicate between cells, the immune system employs hormone-like signal substances; transfer factors are one class of such immune system communication substances.  Transfer factors include both inducer/helper functions and regulator functions. Side effect of long term oral administration of colostrum-derived factors has been shown to be safe. Colostrum is a form of milk produced by the mammary glands of mammals including humans in late pregnancy and it also contains multiple immune modulating molecules.”
I have always been health conscious and consuming products which I believe is good for my health made me a target for marketers because they have no problem convincing me.  All these years this body of mine is sustained every now and then with supplements from mushrooms of Japan and Indonesia, some herbs from America, purple rice of Thailand and some fiber oxidants processed in Davao.

Because health is wealth and because raw nutritious foods are not always available anywhere to buy nor prepare, these kinds of health intakes are easy to take and bring around.

Pure Calamansi

Citrofortunella microcarpa is the scientific name.  I had it  about 10 pieces extracted every morning. Then I wait about 30 minutes to 1 hr for my breakfast. I'm taking it for almost two months now.  In 2012 an article by Bo Sanchez convinced me to take it.  I followed and took it during the first weeks but because of much travelling done in connection to my job I missed a lot of it until it faded in my daily menu but I found an alternate which is the red pomelo, they also call it the Chinese Grapefruit. Now that I am always at home, no travel demands, I return to calamansi.  It is much cheaper.I believe in its nutrients. It may raise eyebrow to some skeptics because of its acid elements but I believe that once taken pure, no mixture of water nor sugar nor salt it is alkaline when it enters the stomach.  I write this article according to my personal experience. I am acidic since childhood.  It was really a struggle for me while growing up. I resort to self medication, memorizing all those antacid over the counter. I avoid soft drinks, all kinds of fruit juice and oily foods and other acid causing elements including milk drink. The calamansi extract does not become acid in me as long as I take it on empty stomach. It has to be empty stomach otherwise the mixture of it with other food intake will make it acidic.

My Friend's Illness

Last year a friend of mine was diagnosed with leukemia. When she broke that news to few friends my initial reaction was in silent mode and thoughts came flowing like those in sad movies where people are dying of some illnesses and the people that surround these dying persons are busy making their last few days happy.   In disbelief about my friend's illness I could do nothing but accept.  Working away from home means I see her less and what I did was to monitor her every week just to get connected to her, asking about her latest white blood count (WBC), is it increasing or decreasing, is she good today, all sorts of hi and hello and how are you.

Being a graduate of a medical course, but didn't practice  due to managing a family business together with her husband, my friend is very careful on her diet and of course the medications, careful in her lifestyle, her life has to be no stress factors, walking and jogging and zumba at the oval.

My friend's white blood count is now back to normal for the last few months.  And I couldn't thank God enough.

What Not to Eat

I worked away from home.  I visit home once a month and see some close friends around and have nice dinner with them sometimes. Two months ago one of my friends told me that she has leukemia. I was glued to my seat and recaptured my heartbeat over fine dining we were on. Did I hear it right? Yes, she has it. Thoughts flow as fast as tomorrow. Would I see her again the next time I come home? I couldn't show her how saddened I was.  Instead I asked, why? How come? What's the cause? Or is it hereditary? She simply said, nope, none of the above. She bravely asked her doctor same questions and the doctor simply told her, "its like raffle draw, your name was being drawn." I couldn't tell her anything to comfort her except to keep my cool and be a normal reactor meaning not to dramatize my reaction.

As of last lab test her WBC (white blood count) was 12,000 (normal range is 1 to 10,000).

Over the conversation I asked one thing: "Then what about your diet? What not to eat?" She was told not to eat meat, if possible no sugar nor salt. That simple.

Few days ago she told me her WBC is within normal range. Wow, thank you, Lord.

I am still healthy!

Ripe mango for supper

I have been eating ripe sweet mangos for supper. One piece can always do. I made this as an alternate for red pomelo. I eat fruits on empty stomach and its the best time. I bloat if I eat them right after meal.  I usually eat supper around 6 PM and sleep after three to four hours. If I stay very late I just nibble on biscuits before going to bed.

I was traveling the usual route and I was bringing with me one ripe mango I bought the night before and took the remaining Ensure powder because I would arrive late in my destination. Because my imagination was to eat the mango with some Ensure powder on it. When I arrived at the hotel room I requested for a spoon and plate, no need for a knife all you have to do is to use the spoon to slice the meat of the mango.

Blood tests are normal

When you are above forties you are required to have series of blood tests to check if you have no UTI, kidney infection at the same time checking out if cholesterol levels are borderline and or above range. I just had these tests yesterday: cholesterol; triglycerides; blood uric acid; blood urea nitrogen; creatinine; HDL cholesterol and LDL cholesterol. All were within normal. I am sure my physician would be pleased to know. I may not know the exact implication to this but all I can grasp is all the results are within the range.

As I look at the results I was thinking of the food that I took for the past weeks. I eat small rice, few meat and poultry, coffee and biscuits in the morning, took some Anlene, Ensure and Green Barley, I also drink some hot chocolates with mild. I ate plenty of red, seedless sweet pomelo, grapes, apples, mango and banana. I only eat rice, vegetables or fish during lunchtime. I walked for 20 to 30 minutes during the last four mornings prior to the tests.

Let me share some comparison:

                                        Sept. 1, 2011                                                May 7, 2012

Results       Reference Range                    Results          Reference Range
Total Cholesterol           231.20           150 - 200                           145.10             0.000 - 220.4
Triglycerides                  137.30           10  - 150                             84.99             0.000- 151.9
HDL Cholesterol             53.00           45  -   77                              44.58             0.000 - 65.02
LDL Cholesterol            150.60          108 - 130                              83.8               0.000 - 150.9

These things I did made me feel good and light. I may be losing weight but not as much as the ideal one. But nevertheless these things I did made me feel better, not grasping for breath to the third floor by the stairway (as if there is another choice like elevator or escalator).

I am healthier today.

Liquid Food

I am still overweight by 3 kg as per BMI standard. I tried to lose weight by taking liquid food in exchange for solid food. One liquid food that i tried is Ensure. This is not a dairy product, contrary to most people's belief. This is simply a complete nutrition food. Ensure is also in powder form.

Another liquid food that I tried is the new product on the block: Green Barley. It is in powder form and all you have to do is add water on it, shake and put in on a fridge. It is tastier when chilled.

Wow Coffee

I have been drinking coffee for the last 5 years and discovered other products such as 3 in one to 12 n 1. I usually have coffee and biscuit in the morning but i have no particular coffee in mind. I just buy what is good for me like slimming coffee or sometimes I go for a coffee that has relaxation agents. I am fascinated with this giant coffee company's playing with lots of coffee varieties just to enhance coffee industry to keep at par with rising of the tea industry. But this big company have not produced yet 12 n 1.

Look at this newly discovered 12 n 1 coffee. Just mix half of the sachet in a cup of hot water, you can survive hours without solid food.

I did

Believe me, I was able to do the 3.2 km run. I am not into running nor jogging. Just let me walk. But for the past two weeks I was able to jog, walk and run. Why would not I? It was fun doing it with others and it was a compulsory training! I am truly blessed. That was a very rare opportunity and a lifetime to remember. For two weeks we were on square meals, obeying, on formations, watching our actions, working as a team, gaining merits as well as demerits. Waking up early 3.30 AM was an agony for me, then do the jog was another agony. Then weekend came for the 3.2 km run. I did. Thanks for the team mates. And not only that, I was able to  "cross the bridge" on two ropes. Two hands clasp on the upper rope and your feet on the lower rope, then slowly I made it to the other side. Then this unforgettable "commando crawl" where I fell to the ground on the first try, then I have to fix myself again and try again. Believe me, I did and have a lifetime to tell the experience was totally different. Believe me. I did.

Sweat it out

Today's activity was spent solely inside the office, sitting down doing some emails.  So I decided to go down to the gym for a dance exercise just to sweat out. In a matter of one week I lost half kilogram and fascinating enough.  Before we started a lady doctor in the group was talking about the daily consciousness of what to eat in a daily basis for those who really want to reduce in weight and the alkaline in the Calamansi juice. I somewhat agreed with her and agreed all the more that we should only eat rice during lunch. Then Besy  (I just knew her name after the dance when we walk together outside) was curious about the things that made her a bit fat. And I confirm that other ways to slim down is to drink Calamansi juice. Pure. No sugar added. No water added. No salt. as in pure. I also gave her advise that she can start 5 to 10 pieces every morning and increase it gradually until she reaches 28 pieces. And some ways is simply to sweat out.  I enrolled in the dance exercise not to become a dancer (that would be too late for a dream) but to simply sweat it out. I feel better.

What I ate inside SM City Mall

I had breakfast in Pier Uno of peanut bread, fish and coffee (3 in 1) enough for the brief appointment in the morning and then afterwards I have to go somewhere to stay while waiting for my boat ride back to the office.  And SM seemed to be the only place to stay.  Why I love SM because there are plenty of things to see and think about. There are plenty of foods to eat around from Thai to Japanese to Filipino foods.  And of course there are these never ending fast foods of the century.  But if you have another diet plan in mind you can skip all these. I went directly to "Fruit and Salad Medley"  and my usual choice are the combination of grapes, mango and honey dew. But there were no grapes, mango nor honey dew this time so I picked some vegies instead like lettuce with matching cucumber of two varieties. No salad dressing. A friend went over to see me so I decided we have lunch at Sunburst, that means a plate with the stuff of chicken, vegie with noodles and some shanghai thing. Then we ate later the fresh vegetables I just bought from the supernarket. Then supper time I popped on two handful of cornflakes which I bought from the grocery earlier.

Light Meal

We should take light meal inorder for food to digested easily, when you put plenty of food into the stomach the food may digest slowly and it will linger in the stomach longer which may cause acidity. I maybe wrong but this is what I have observed and have been doing and I feel light.  Even while traveling I do not eat much. I only eat what is enough for the corresponding action. We should not overeat. But one thing is important we should eat correct combination of food.

I reduced 3 kg

That's true I reduced three kilogram in a matter of three months. And the last kilo I lost was just a matter of one week.  What did I do? I go to a dancing exercise studio. We had all these stretching and toning down of muscles after wards. But not only that, I make a conscious effort on what to eat. In the morning when I wake up I try to squeezed on pure calamansi juice twice a week. Then after an hour or two I only take 3-n1 coffee or or a cereal drink or milk and nibble some biscuits. Very light meal is the name of the game.  Lunch time I eat rice, some vegetables and fish. Take note I rarely eat meat. Every after lunch I would take 500mg Vitamin C from Classique Herbs and three times a week (after lunch) I also take Glutathione also from Classique Herbs. . Then in the evening I go for oatmeal sometimes and other times I go for a couple of ripe mangoes some supper are alternated with cornflakes. Take note again the name of the game is light meal.

How much water does your body needs?

Mine is 1.5 liters according to the body mass I have. That is considering my height and weight. But that is too much for me especially when it's wet season but 1 liter for me during dry season is enough. I am not a water lover actually and I used to drink only when thirsty but over time I have changed.  Why? because I have discovered the wonders of water.  I have this back pains and drinking water relieves me. And one liter is enough for me.  You, how much water does your body needs?

My drinking water habit

Yes I still have acidity in my stomach but pretty careful this time.  I avoid drinks that are acidic. I do not drink soft drink especially the cola types (my apology to my friends who works for Coke and Pepsi). I totally avoided juices, unless it's pure (no water, no sugar nor salt.). I drink iced tea but not much.  I go for hot tea, milk and chocolate. On occasions I eat meat but not much and I drink seven up or sprite moderately afterwards. And I am trying to drink plenty of water these days as I tend to forget it unless I am very thirsty.  I required myself to drink one liter a day but there are moments that it really bothers me. Why, because the trips to the toilets have increased its frequency. I only drink water when I am sure to stay at one place the whole day, because I travel a lot I do not drink water religiously.

My addiction

My mother was a school teacher and being the youngest I was tucked along. But not when I was still a toddler. She left me with the care of some nanny in my father's stepmother's household. Whenever she arrived home from school she would noticed that the baby, that was me, smelled tuba.  She would find out later that my nanny, being a sweet tuba drinker let the toddler drink it too.

I may not have a proof that this is somehow connected to my addiction later on of the smell of the vinegar and the vinegar itself then but I am pretty sure that vinegar causes acidity in my stomach.

Stomach acidity

Over the years I have to rediscover why I have stomach acidity. In my young years I got addicted to the smell of vinegar, the one which is the finish product of coconut. Every time I ran errands for vinegar in the neighborhood I took one sip before reaching our kitchen. Little did I know it was the cause of my stomach acidity.  And again over the years I have to uncover why I was addicted to that vinegar and the smell of it.

Let's live a healthy life

Let us live a healthy life.  Why am I advocating health? Simple, health is wealth. I was a sickly child. I easily got colds, fever and flu and I always vomit whenever I travel long on a bus. I remember always having a stomach ache and couldn't figure out what went wrong.  There were times that I have to excuse myself from my grade school class because my stomach ached and I rushed home to emote.  Then in college anti acids were introduced to me so I started taking them.  Yes them because I have an enumeration of the anti acids in the world.  Kremil S, Creamalin, Nuvalucid, Mylanta, etc. They relieved me somehow and I can even say it helped me. Before I always have anti acid wherever I go and some relief ointments just incase my stomach aches along the way. But now I rarely have these items in my handbag. I can say now that my health has improved and a great factor because I can travel long comfortably as my job entails traveling . Now my health is my wealth.
